Apple is reportedly ramping up its efforts to bring more iPhone part production in-house. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is building out a new office focused on the development of in-house chips, replacing chips that are currently provided by Broadcom and Skyworks. The report explains that Apple is looking to hire a “few dozen people” to develop chips in Irvine, California. Coincidentally, this is close to where Skyworks and Broadcom also have offices....

After seeding the second beta to developers this week, Apple has officially launched the public beta for macOS Monterey. The new software is available to test out for free and comes with new features like FaceTime’s SharePlay, AirPlay to Mac, Focus mode, the Shortcuts app, and much more. The first macOS Monterey public beta officially launched on Apple’s public beta website today (via MacStories’ Federico Viticci). New features and changes coming with macOS 12 Monterey include a totally redesigned Safari, Shortcuts app arriving on the Mac, FaceTime’s new SharePlay feature, Universal Control to seamlessly work across multiple Apple devices, a new Focus mode, Quick Notes, AirPlay to Mac, and more....

Apple today released the first Public Beta of the upcoming OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. The new release includes the iCloud-based Photos application for the Mac, new Emojis across the system, and simpler login to Google accounts for profiles with two-factor authentication enabled. This beta is labeled as build 14D87, which is the same as the second 10.10.3 beta for developers, which was released a week ago. The Public Beta is available in the Mac App Store Software Update tab for registered beta users....

Apple has released iOS 10.2.1 beta 2 for developers. The update follows the public release of iOS 10.2 last week and the first iOS 10.2.1 beta as well. iOS 10.2 included new redesigned emojis, the TV app for US users, a couple of new screen effects in Messages, amongst other enhancements. Apple has released an updated build of the pre-release OS X 10.10.2 software update. The new build, 14C94b, continues to focus on fixes for WiFi, Mail, and VoiceOver. The update is available through the Updates tab of the Mac App Store for users on the pre-release version of OS X Yosemite; as with previous pre-release builds, the update does require a reboot and comes in at 561MB. Apple today is releasing another version of Safari Technology Preview for macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey. This time, the update brings bug fixes and performance improvements. With Safari Technology Preview 129, Apple is improving performance and bringing bug fixes for the Web Inspector, CSS, Scrolling, Rendering, WebAssembly, Web API, Platform Features, IndexedDB, Media, WebGL, and WebCrypto. For those unfamiliar, Safari Technology Preview is an alternative version of Apple’s web browser focused on developers as it comes with beta features that are not yet available in the regular version of Safari....

Apple has released the third iOS 10.3.2 beta for testing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The version numbers also suggest we should only see under-the-hood bug fixes and security improvements in these releases when ready. iOS 10.3.2 beta 3 is currently only available in beta for registered developers. The public beta version of each update usually follows a few days after the developer version if not the same day. tvOS and watchOS are also available as beta updates, although public beta programs are not available....

After making the first-ever public Apple Watch beta software available earlier this month, the third beta is now available for public watchOS 7 testers. It has arrived just a day after Apple released the latest watchOS 7 developer beta. If you’re enrolled in the watchOS 7 public beta, you can find the update by heading to the Watch app on your iPhone > General > Software Update. Keep checking back if you don’t see beta 3 right away as it rolls out to everyone in the program....

After a few weeks of testing, Apple is releasing today’s watchOS 7.6 RC version to all users. This version brings bug fixes and ECG capability to more regions. The build version of watchOS 7.6 RC is 18U63. According to Apple’s release notes, watchOS 7.6 RC brings support for the ECG app and irregular heart rhythm notifications on Apple Watch Series 4 or later in 30 additional regions. A late-breaking report from Re/code is indicating that Apple is readying an announcement about news initiatives on iOS. According to the report, the company plans to kill off Newsstand although individual apps will still remain in the App Store. Apple will also apparently introduce a new service which will present news stories from a variety of sources, such as ESPN, New York Times and Conde Naste. The report describes the product as similar to Flipboard....

Bloomberg reports that the tech giant is experiencing software challenges that would most likely delay the headset’s release until the end of this year or 2023. The delay is due to Apple’s development team allegedly experiencing problems with the headset related to overheating and issues with the camera. Even though Apple hasn’t officially confirmed a headset is in the works, Bloomberg said the company had plans to unveil the product in June at the annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference....

Following the release of iOS 14 to the public last week, Apple has just stopped signing iOS 13.7. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14 can no longer downgrade to any iOS 13 build. iOS 14 was released on September 16 after almost three months of beta period. The update brings a major redesign to the Home screen with widgets, App Library, and other new features. There are now almost 30% of Apple devices running iOS 14, which is 10% more than iOS 13 achieved in the same period last year....

Apple on Wednesday notified developers about upcoming certificate changes for apps and push notifications, which will impact some software depending on the Xcode version used by the developer. As announced by the company on the Apple Developer website, some certificate updates will be available for the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Developer ID starting January 27, 2022. APN certificates are required to enable push notifications in apps and websites on Safari, and now these certificates will be issued from a new intermediate certificate....

Apple today has changed its iPhone 5s shipping estimates in the United States (and other countries such as China, Canada, and Australia), to note that the phones will ship in 2-3 weeks. Previously, Apple said that phones would ship in October.
