A brief report in China’s Economic Daily Times says that Apple’s AirPods manufacturer, Inventec, is expanding capacity in order to meet strong demand. The report noted that Inventec has recently started expanding capacity at its Shanghai plants in order to satisfy increasing demand for the earphones and the plants are currently working overtime to deliver orders … Unsurprisingly, Inventec declined to comment on the report. Tim Cook recently described AirPods as ‘a runaway success‘ and said that the company was making them ‘as fast as we can’ to keep up with demand – but did not provide any sales numbers....

Back in 2018, Apple acquired a music industry startup called Platoon, which was co-founded by a former iTunes executive. Apple today posted a job listing on its website seeking a software engineer to help “implement new mail anti-abuse infrastructure” for iCloud mail services. The candidate will join Apple’s iCloud team and must have experience with mail and spam systems/architecture, so it appears Apple is looking to cut down on the amount of spam that iCloud users receive. There have been some hiccups with Apple’s iCloud mail service in the past (apart from frequent iCloud service outages), including a problem with the service’s automated spam filters that caused legitimate emails to be sent to spam....

Apple has given its Apple ID website a facelift today, bringing a much-needed modern look to the site. Last month security researcher Denis Tokarev, aka illusionofchaos, shared his experience of reporting three zero-day iOS vulnerabilities to Apple with specific criticism around how the company is slow to respond, act, and didn’t give him credit for one of the three flaws that were patched. Now it appears Apple has fixed another zero-day flaw, this one in iOS 15 that Tokarev found earlier this year, without giving him credit. In September, Tokarev said that after waiting up to half a year since reporting some of the vulnerabilities to Apple, he decided to go public with the information....

Just nine days after the last developer beta, Apple has released iOS 9.3 beta 5 to registered developers and public beta users for testing. This beta version is expected to restore full Apple Pencil support for scrolling and navigation on iPad Pros after earlier betas removed that function.
