Apple has created a new marketing executive position that will be filled by Nick Law, a veteran in the creative industry. Law will join Apple as its vice president of marketing communications integration, or “marcom.” As reported by AdWeek, Law will be tasked with leading Apple’s digital-first approach among its marketing and communication teams. He’ll play a role in TV, retail, digital ads, and media strategy, Apple confirmed. Law has a storied career in the creative advertising industry, spending 17 years at the agency R/GA and a year at agency holding company Publicis as its COO....

Apple has just dropped iOS 10.2.1 beta 1 for developers. The contents of the update are currently unknown. The update swiftly follows the public release of iOS 10.2 on Monday. iOS 10.2 included new redesigned emojis, the TV app for US users, a couple of new screen effects in Messages, amongst other enhancements. The first seed of iOS 10.2.1 weighs in at 1.82 GB for developers over-the-air. Given the minor bump in version number, this is likely a simple bug fix release....

Apple has released the third iOS 10.3 public beta for testing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 10.3 public beta 3 follows the third developer version of the upcoming software update. Apple’s public beta program is free to participate in unlike its paid developer program. iOS 10.3 will be released to everyone likely this spring, and the public beta allows more users to test pre-release versions of the software update before it’s finalized....

iOS 13.3.1 for iPhone and iPadOS 13.3.1 for iPad Several bug fixes in today’s update, including a Communication Limits workaround that lets kids add contacts without entering a Screen Time passcode. It also addresses issues with editing Deep Fusion photos taken on iPhone 11 and fixes issues related to the Mail app. In addition, this update fixes a location tracking bug that Apple received scrutiny over last month. The newest iPhones were still requesting location data even though all tracking was disabled in Settings....

Apple released OS X 10.7.3 build 11D36 to developers this evening, and it is available on the Developer Center. Apple asked developers to focus on iCloud Document Storage, Address Book, iCal, Mail, Spotlight, and Safari. The delta update of this build tops out at 986 MB and the combo update weighs in at 1.25 GB. The OS X 10.7.3 should roll out to Lion users in the coming weeks, so sit tight....

Right on schedule, Apple has released the sixth preview of the upcoming OS X Yosemite to developers today. This new seed comes two weeks following the previous release, and it likely continues to bring performance enhancements, interface tweaks, and bug fixes. Following Apple’s revision to its Q1 2019 earnings, it was revealed that Tim Cook would hold an all-hands meeting to discuss the results with Apple employees. While the majority of the details from that meeting have yet to leak, John Gruber at Daring Fireball today has an interesting tidbit. During the all-hands meeting, Tim Cook reportedly stated that Apple replaced 11 million batteries over the duration of the $29 replacement program....

Apple is reportedly asking its chipmaker TSMC to increase production of the A13 processor due to higher-than-anticipated iPhone 11 demand. Bloomberg reports that the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro are selling particularly well in China. The report says that the demand for iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro is “outperforming the market and Apple’s expectations.” In turn, Apple is asking TSMC to increase production of the A13 processor to keep up with that demand....

When Apple released the first beta of iOS 9.3, iPad Pro users quickly discovered that the update essentially crippled the Apple Pencil’s functionality with the device. Since its release, the Apple Pencil had been able to be used to navigate throughout iOS, in addition to the oft-touted drawing capabilities. The 9.3 betas, however, removed the accessory’s ability to be used to navigate iOS. Apple has confirmed to The Verge, though, that the capability will return in the next beta....

To help developers transition their Intel Mac apps to run on forthcoming ARM Macs, Apple is offering developers a new Developer Transition Kit. This is Mac mini hardware featuring an A12X CPU. Apple will start shipping these developer kits later this week. Apple announced an aggressive schedule for the ARM transition. The company said it will release its first ARM Mac before the end of the year, and will complete the transition within two years....

Apple is looking to hire a “regulatory project manager” to join its ever-growing Health team, as first detailed in a report from MyHealthyApple. The job posting is for a position on the Hardware team and the person would be responsible for leading the work on a Class II medical device and the associated regulatory hurdles. Apple has made another notable hire from the mapping world this month: the Cupertino-based company, coming off of a series of mishaps in its Maps division, has brought on former Nokia HERE and NAVTEQ executive Torsten Krenz, according to sources. Before joining Apple this month, Krenz served as Nokia HERE’s director of regional map and content. Krenz has had a long career in the mapping world and previously served as Vice President of Global Expansion in NAVTEQ’s Digital Mapping Operations before it was acquired by Nokia and merged with Here....

Earlier today Apple updated its website where customers can send in an old device for recycling to include the Apple Watch. That means that customers can now send their old Apple Watch to be responsibly recycled through the company’s Apple Renew program free of charge, but it’s not offering customers a gift card or any credit in exchange like it does with iPhones, iPads, and Macs. When Apple first released the Apple Watch, potential resale value and upgradability down the road was a big topic of conversation....

Following the public release of iOS 10.3 yesterday, Apple has updated its list of wireless carrier support and features by country to note a number of carriers that now support Wi-Fi calling and or VoLTE functionality. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple offered to settle with Chinese company Proview after a long, ongoing battle over the iPad trademark in China. While the amount of compensation offered was not disclosed, Proview’s lawyers have not agreed to the deal and claim a “big gap’ remains in reaching a settlement. Recently, there was speculation that the trademark battle might have led to Apple holding off from launching the new iPad in the country....

Apple’s WebKit team today proposed a new Community Group to discuss the future of 3D graphics on the web. In a blog post on the WebKit blog, Apple’s Dean Jackson wrote about the company’s proposal to develop a standard API that exposes modern GPU features. Apple has released iTunes 11.3.1 (Mac, Windows) for OS X Mavericks today with a bug fixes for subscribed podcasts not receiving updates and for podcast episodes lists becoming unresponsive while browsing.
