Continuing the celebrations of its 40th birthday, Apple has posted a special Apple Music playlist featuring songs from Apple ads over the last four decades. The playlist contains 38 songs in total, with music from The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Coldplay, Gorillaz and more. Unfortunately, the playlist has little accompanying context so you don’t know which songs correspond to which ads. Most the songs appear to be derived from old iPod commercials, like this one....

Following the release of iOS 16.1.2 on November 30, Apple has now stopped signing both iOS 16.1 and iOS 16.1.1. Following the release of iOS 14.5.1 on May 3 to the public, Apple today stopped signing the original iOS 14.5 release. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14.5.1 can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.5. According to Apple, iOS 14.5.1 fixes an exploit found in WebKit and a bug related to the new App Tracking Transparency feature (although it is still not working for some users)....

Alongside the release of iOS 14 beta 4, Apple today has also released watchOS 7 beta 4 to developers. watchOS 7 includes new features such as sleep tracking, new watch face features, fitness improvements, and more. iTunes Match launched yesterday, two weeks after the deadline Apple set in their Let’s Talk iPhone event in early October. Available via iTunes 10.5.1, you can purchase the Match service for an annual Subscription of $24.99. Once purchased, iTunes Match will take you through a three-step process. First, the service will review the music in your library and match your music with songs from the iTunes store and upload artwork and any remaining songs that couldn’t be found in the iTunes music store....

Apple has released the fourth macOS 10.12.3 developer beta for testing, the second in a week. New features haven’t been discovered in previous macOS 10.12.3 betas, suggesting the software update is focused on bug fixes and performance improvements. We’ll update with any notable changes below: macOS 10.12.3 first entered developer beta on December 14 and saw a second beta on December 20 before the holiday break. The third macOS 10.12.3 beta released earlier this week still contained bugs for MacBook Pro Touch Bar users so hopefully these have been sorted out in this release....

Apple today has announced that its general counsel and SVP Bruce Sewell will be retiring at the end of the year and that Katherine Adams will be stepping into the role. In a press release, Apple shared the news that Sewell would be retiring after working at Apple in his current role since 2009. Tim Cook shared the following about Sewell’s exit. As for Sewell’s replacement, Katherine Adams comes to Apple after serving as general counsel and SVP at Honeywell since 2003....

Apple today has shared a new ad for the iPhone 7 Plus on its YouTube channel. The ad focuses on the device’s dual-camera design and the Portrait Mode feature that comes along with it.. The ad starts with one person having their photo taken with Portrait Mode, causing a domino effect of everyone realizing how professional the image looks and asking for their own picture to be taken. The portraits are shown full-screen in the ad once they are taken, though it’s unclear if there was any post-processing done to the images on Apple’s part....

Following our reports last week of Apple’s Ship to Store system being rolled out in San Francisco, we have learned this evening that Apple plans to rollout the new system to all regions this Thursday, November 3rd. The Ship to Store system will allow customers to place an order for a product on Apple’s Online Store and then pick up their purchase at their local Apple Store within the hour....

Apple has been quietly working on several original TV series behind the scenes, but has yet to announce anything officially. Today, that list continues to grow as Apple has placed another series order. As reported by The Wrap, Apple has placed an order for Little America, which will be produced and written by Lee Eisenberg, who worked on The Office for 5 seasons. According to a report from Variety today, Apple has ordered a new original TV series based on the novel “The Mosquito Coast.” The new show will star Justin Theroux, the report says. “The Mosquito Coast” is a novel written by Paul Theroux, who just so happens to be Justin Theroux’s uncle. Here’s the description: Neil Cross will adapt the book for television and serve as the show runner. Cross will also work with Tom Bissell and write the first episode of the series....

Apple has designed and manufactured custom face masks for employees, as first reported by Bloomberg. The company has created what it calls the ‘Apple Face Mask’, which uses three layers of material to filter particles.. Apple has also purchased special clear masks from a third-party distributor; the first completely clear surgical mask to be approved by the FDA. The clear mask will allow someone who is deaf or hard of hearing to be able to lipread what an employee is saying....

Apple’s VP of environment, policy and social initiatives Lisa Jackson has tweeted congratulations to chip supplier TSMC on doubling its use of renewable energy this year. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company posted the numbers in a brief press release. TSMC said that it was committed to ‘green buildings, green fabs, green manufacturing, green supply chain, and more.’ The company will purchase 200 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power in 2016 compared to the previous year’s purchase of 100 million kWh, further supporting Taiwan’s renewable energy development and environmentally friendly low-carbon measures....
