Apple is looking to hire a new Head of Social Media and Content that will lead and expand on its current social media strategy. The job will be based out of Culver City, which could hint at Apple’s plans to align its overall social media strategy closer with its recently acquired Beats Electronics division which is located there. The West LA office is also in close proximity to its lead global Ad/Marketing agency Media Arts Lab....

After today’s jam-packed event, Apple has published the full keynote video from this year’s WWDC. Apple has also released the promo videos used during the keynote showing off iOS 10’s newest features and a video dedicated to developers. On the same page with the full keynote page, Apple lists the preview pages showcasing what we’ll be seeing in the official software releases later this fall. Today’s keynote saw Mac OS X being renamed to macOS and its next iteration being called Sierra....

While not as major, Apple is today releasing the second developer builds for iOS 11.4.1, tvOS 11.4.1 and macOS 10.13.6. Being a bug fix update to the earlier release, we aren’t expecting any new user facing features. After three months of testing, Apple is now releasing tvOS 15 and HomePod 15 to the public. This means anyone with an Apple TV HD (or newer) and HomePod or HomePod mini can download this update. tvOS 15 and HomePod 15 aren’t receiving as big of an update as iOS 15. As a matter of fact, Apple barely talked about them during the WWDC21 keynote back in June. Both of the operating systems have the same build of the Release Candidate version of last week: 19J6346....

Following the release of macOS Big Sur 11.2 RC 2 earlier this week, Apple is today releasing the third RC build of macOS Big Sur 11.2 to developers and public beta users. This update comes with fixes for M1 Macs, plus Bluetooth improvements, and more. As a reminder, Apple has moved away from the previously-used golden master naming for near-final beta releases. Instead, going forward, the company will use the term “Release Candidate,” or RC, to reference a near-final beta release....

As we reported earlier this month, Apple today has updated its online website with deeper integration with its appointment scheduling services for the Genius Bar and in-store workshops. This change comes not far after the Apple Online Store was heavily integrated throughout the entire online site, continuing Apple’s efforts to consolidate its physical retail stores, online store, and main website. Apple’s combined appointment scheduling service is being referred to as the “Concierge” and is deeply integrated into individual Apple Retail Store pages with today’s update, versus it previously being its own website....

Apple has been putting more energy into building up its gaming service this year and today the company has revealed its next major launch. Disney Melee Mania is coming soon to Apple Arcade as an exclusive title. Apple announced the partnership with Disney and Pixar in press release today: Apple didn’t share a release date for the new game yet – just “Coming Soon”/December – but it is showing up in the App Store where you can opt to “Get” it to download to your device as soon as it’s available....

As noted by MacRumors, Apple has removed its recent Genius-related TV ads from both its website and YouTube channel. The ads have been the source of controversy due to their departure from Apple’s past ad campaigns. The ads stopped airing on television earlier this month. Speaking of Geniuses, Gizmodo has some confessions from Geniuses at “the most corrupt Apple Stores in America” which reads more like a “Fear and Loathing at the Apple Store”....

The first new section of the London Tube network this century opened today, providing service to Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station – which will be home to Apple’s London campus … Background Battersea Power Station comprised two coal-fired power stations in one building. The first was decommissioned on 1975, and the second in 1983. Since the building was an iconic part of the London landscape, it was given “listed” status, which means that the overall appearance of the building had to be preserved and protected as part of any redevelopment....

Apple continues its drip strategy of making minimal App Store changes in response to each individual antitrust threat it perceives – and Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty unsurprisingly expects recent developments to have minimal impact on the company’s bottom line. In a note to investors, Huberty looks at four recent antitrust developments, and estimates the likely hit to Apple’s financial performance … In a note seen by PED30, she outlines the four things that happened in the last 10 days....

Apple has shared its heartfelt holiday ad on YouTube today. This year’s release follows a family as they deal with the loss of their grandma/mother and the creative way that the grandkids show love and appreciation for their grandpa as he remembers his wife with the help of iPad. In keeping with tradition, Apple has shared its longer-form holiday ad, this year called “The Surprise.” The story follows a family through the hustle and bustle of holiday travel to grandpa’s house....

The lawsuit between Oracle and Google is inadvertently revealing some confidential information about the companies. It has already been disclosed that Google paid Apple a $1 billion fee in 2014 to keep Google as the default search provider for iOS Safari, as well as a revenue sharing agreement where Google gives a substantial portion of the iPhone search ad revenue to Apple. Another lawyer from Oracle has also stated that Google has generated $22 billion in profit and $31 billion in revenue from Android in its lifetime, via Bloomberg....

Apple is running a special promotion on some Beats headphones right now, offering rare but notable discounts on Powerbeats Pro, Beats Solo Pro and fourth-gen Powerbeats. This is not the first time Apple has done special discounting on its Beats line, but it isn’t exactly common and the price reductions are significant. Whilst these aren’t the lowest prices we’ve seen for these items, they are not bad at all and some of the best discounts the Apple Store has ever had....

Apple Pay went live in the UK earlier this week with its first international rollout since debuting in the US last October, but Apple’s iPhone- and Apple Watch-based mobile payment solution hasn’t been without its own launch issues across the pond. To start, Apple Pay is a bit restricted in the UK as it is limited to transactions under £20 until September when the contactless payment rules change and the limit increases slightly to £30....

Apple may plan to introduce not one, not two, but three different iPhone offerings, perhaps even as soon as June, implementing 3G support and offering an iPhone mini to widen the reach of its technology, at least that’s todays rumor. Apple’s apparently considering a premium model iPhone that’s equipped with support for 3G. Larger than the existing model its extra size conceals a battery offering triple the duration of the current generation, with more models too… The company also plans to retain its current EDGE-network iPhone, though capacity could climb to match that of the iPod touch, which itself could see a capacity bump (though with next stop being 64GB it’s possible the high-cap touch would demand a premium price, which may limit its success in the curently shrinking CE market)....

Here’s some incredibly interesting news from today’s iOS update extravaganza: Apple today released iOS 6.1 (or, in Apple TV talk, 5.2) for an heretofore unknown Apple TV called “Apple TV 3,2”. You can download it here. Apple’s current Apple TV — version 3,1 — was updated to 1080p with a single-core A5 processor in March 2012. On the conservative side, this may just be a new set of chips cobbled together to do the same thing as the current model....

Apple has released the fourth OS X 10.11.4 preview for registered developers to test ahead of its expected release next month. The software update to the Mac will likely be released around next month’s March 15th event and is expected to coincide with a new version of iTunes. For Mac users, the latest version of OS X El Capitan adds enhancements like being able to view and share Live Photos originally taken on the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus as well as the ability to lock notes behind a secure password....

While Apple’s effort to create a digital TV service seems to have stalled, the company is still chasing a better way to find and watch content on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. Recode reports that Apple is currently talking to “TV programmers and other video companies” over a potential universal guide that could show what TV shows and movies are available from streaming video channels. The report highlights HBO, Netflix and ESPN as likely candidates....

The saga surrounding Apple supplier Japan Display continues today, as reports suggest that Apple is looking to invest $100 million in the company. This comes after a report last week said Japan Display’s rescue plan was up in the air. According to a report from Asahi in Japan, Apple will invest $100 million in Japan Display as the supplier goes through “restructuring.” Apple currently accounts for 60 percent of Japan Display orders, the report says....
