Apple has released the fourth iOS 9.3 public beta to non-developer testers today. iOS 9.3 public beta 4 follows this week’s fourth developer iOS 9.3 beta release as well. The latest beta cleans up issues introduced in the last version while adding some new features as well. iOS 9.3, which is expected to be released to everyone next month, adds loads of new features for iPhones and iPads including Night Shift mode to change the display temperature for evening reading, Touch ID/secure passwords to protect Notes, new 3D Touch shortcuts on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, enhancements to the Health and Activity apps, iCloud for iBooks PDF syncing, and much more....

Apple last month released iOS 16.2 beta, and the update brings the Freeform app, improvements to the Home app, and a feature called “Rapid Security Response” that will provide quick security patches to iOS without the need to install an entire new version of the operating system. Apple has released an updated version of OS X Server (version 2.2) that introduces a new software update caching system and various fixes. Tim Cook just posted the above letter on Apple’s website to reminisce and pay homage to the company’s late cofounder, Steve Jobs. Today is the one-year anniversary of Jobs’ passing, so Apple updated its homepage early this morning with a video montage to remember his life and death. AllThingsD, which seems to have a bead on Apple’s Fall Event, says the event will be held on Apple’s campus. OracleWorld is happening in the Moscone/Yerba Buena area during the October 4th announcement so that could be a reason for the move. Though Yerba Buena, the usual venue for such announcements, isn’t marked as booked. Also, Apple has much more control over the wireless access at its campus auditorium, something that had caused some issues during the iPhone 4 announcement....

Apple has officially announced its upcoming spring event (via @tim) scheduled for March 21st in Cupertino at Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop campus at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. According to Digitimes, due to some last minute device changes and supply shortages at manufacturing plants, Apple has reduced their mass production target volume for the iPad 2 from “400,000-600,000 units originally to only 300,000-400,000 units.” Apple is still mass-producing the next-generation tablet right now and it still tracking a late March release date. Apple is rolling out the fourth developer beta version of iOS 10.2 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 10.2 includes several upcoming features like new Unicode 9.0 emoji, three new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus wallpapers, a new TV app, additional camera features, new Messages screen effects, and more. Apple has seeded developers with the macOS 11.3 beta 2 today. We got the first 11.3 beta build two weeks ago that included a variety of changes and new features like sorting in the Reminders app, Safari customizations, improved support for stereo HomePods and more. Apple has released the second developer betas of watchOS 7.2 and tvOS 14.3. This comes after yesterday’s release of iOS 14.3 beta 2 to developers and public beta users. watchOS 7.2 beta 2 features the build number 18S5555c, while tvOS 14.3 beta 2 features the build number 18K5556a. With watchOS 7.2, Apple Watch users will be able to receive new cardio fitness notifications. Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts has recently sat down with Fast Company for a brief interview in which she discusses what her first two years at Apple have been like. Ahrendts previously was the CEO of high-end fashion retailer Burberry. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was created in 1990 to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, is turning 30 this week. As this has also impacted technology, TechCrunch interviewed Apple’s Sarah Herrlinger to explore how the company values accessibility practices and features. Apple today has shared a new advertisement on its YouTube channel for the iPad Pro. As it has done in other instances in the past, Apple today announced that it is updating App Store prices in South Africa and New Zealand. It’s good news for users in Africa, however, as prices will go down, while prices will increase in New Zealand. In South Africa, Apple explains that prices will go down in order to account for foreign exchange rates. This change will occur over the next 72 hours, Apple says....

Digitimes cites Chinese publication Liberty Times in reporting that Apple manufacturing partners Foxconn and TSMC are planning to bid for shares of Toshiba’s flash storage business. The move could bolster Toshiba against Samsung which leads in the memory space. Foxconn company chairman Terry Guo points to the adoption of 8K resolution technology as reason for demand for more storage in the future. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) have reportedly joined forces in a bid for Toshiba Memory’s shares, according to a Chinese-language Liberty Times report....

Various rumors on Apple releasing an MacBook/iPad hybrid have been circling for a while. Today, the US Patent and Trademark Office has granted another new patent for Apple that raises new suspicion. According to Patently Apple, this new patent involves a hinged iPad keyboard accessory with an iPad using a macOS-like interface. This keyboard would provide more flexibility for users with multiple installation modes. It also illustrates a MacBook-like device where an iPad with macOS-like UI attaches magnetically to this keyboard....
