Patently Apple reports that Apple has patented a new glove that works with capacitive touch screens. Several devices on the market use capacitive screens such as all of Apple’s mobile iOS devices: iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This highly advanced touch screen technology senses your inputs based on proximity sensors in the display, in addition to the human body’s natural conductivity. Because of these factors, devices like the iPhone cannot be used if the user is wearing something like a glove....

When Apple unveiled its new Apple Pay payment service during its iPhone event last month, it said the new feature would arrive for users in the US sometime in October. While there hasn’t been a firm date announced for the launch, at least one of Apple’s early bank partners has apparently confirmed a release date. DailyDot reports that USAA said Apple Pay would become available for its Visa and MasterCard customers on November 7:...

The report could be based on crossed messages – Apple’s iPhone 3G launched in India last week, so in support of the new device a new iTunes Store for India has already been opened up – but this only offers iPhone applications at this time. Indian newspaper the Business Standard expects the company to extend what’s on offer through the store, introducing music downloads, podcasts, and eventually film and TV shows....

Apple today released new Boot Camp Assistant drivers for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. These drivers are required for installing and running Windows on Macs. The new 16-inch MacBook Pro was released last week with improved specifications, but some users noticed a specific problem with their laptop. Several reports on the Apple support forum mention that users were unable to proceed with the installation of Windows on their new MacBook. Boot Camp Assistant warned that drivers were not available for this particular Mac model....

Update: iOS 9 beta 3 for public beta testers is also available. Apple today released iOS 9 beta 5 for registered developers testing the new operating system ahead of its release this fall. The latest build comes two weeks and two days after the previous version, which included tweaked icons, the return of Home Sharing support, a new Handoff UI, a cleaner Apple Music experience, and changes to how Apple Pay can be activated on the lock screen....

Apple is finally releasing today watchOS 7.6, one of the last updates to the watchOS 7 cycle. With this version, users in 30 additional regions will be able to use the ECG app with Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5, or Series 6. watchOS 7.6 RC was seeded last week and according to Apple’s release notes, it is also bringing support for irregular heart rhythm notifications on Apple Watch Series 4 or later in these 30 additional regions....

Update: Now available. Roughly two weeks after releasing iOS 12.3 for iPhone and iPad, Apple is preparing to release iOS 12.3.1 with two bug fixes. Alongside announcing new Apple Watch hardware today at its September event, Apple has shared that watchOS 7 will be available for all users on September 16. watchOS 7 comes with a number of new changes and improvements. Two of the headlining features include native sleep tracking and watch face sharing. First reported by MacStories’ Federico Viticci, watchOS 7 will land tomorrow on September 16. Meanwhile, new workout types like dance, functional strength training, core training, and cooldown make it easier to accurately track exercise and automatic handwashing detection starts a 20-second countdown to make sure you’re cleaning your hands for long enough....

Cupertino City Council last night voted unanimously to approve Apple’s planning application for the circular campus building first presented to council members by Steve Jobs in 2011, in what was to turn out to be his last public appearance before his death. It was Steve Jobs who nicknamed the building the ‘spaceship.’ Although the approval is still subject to a final vote on 15th November, the San Jose Mercury News reports that this is merely a formality....

Siri, Apple’s artificial intelligence-driven digital secretary exclusive to iPhone 4S, is being worked on, improved and is about to get smarter, a pair of job openings indicate. This doesn’t come as such a big surprise because Siri – uncharacteristically for Apple – launched as a beta product because it had to (and thus its lack of fit and finish). Apple’s Siri user interface manager Dan Keen pointed at two job openings for experienced iOS software engineers to join the team that implements the user interface for Siri and help “make the next big thing even bigger”....

The billboards feature mostly black and white backgrounds akin to the imagery on Apple’s website, and the artwork features different and unique fonts. The billboards are custom sized to their location, meaning they have been specifically designed for individual placement. Apple has now activated in-store pickup on its website as another way to buy Apple AirPods from retail stores. If you are lucky, your local store might just have some units in stock and you can go and collect them today. If you are desperate to buy AirPods before Christmas, it’s worth refreshing your local pickup options as retail stores are getting new shipments all the time. AirPods are also now being sold on Verizon’s website, which is another place where you might be able to buy some before the end of 2016....

While macOS Catalina includes many new features and enhancements, at least one iconic Mac feature has bit the dust. With macOS 10.15, Apple has killed its famous Dashboard feature completely. This comes after Apple made it increasingly hard to access with last year’s Mojave release. In macOS Catalina, Dashboard is nowhere to be found at all. Appleosophy even went as far as to try and enable the feature via Terminal, but without any luck....

As noted this morning on Reddit, workers on the Apple Park campus site are posting photos and video snaps to Snapchat for the world to see. Whilst this openness surely isn’t endorsed by Apple, it seems to have been going on for a long time unnoticed with snaps going back weeks. There is enough for it to appear on the ‘Snap Map’ as a heat spot at least. The images don’t reveal too much, although the interior videos of the work-in-progress pods definitely give off a dystopian vibe....

New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced today that it is continuing the expansion of its OMNY tap-and-ride payment platform. OMNY supports contactless cards, as well as mobile payment platforms like Apple Pay, and it’s now available at Penn Station. Starting today, you can now use Apple Pay at 18 turnstile arrays serving the A, C, E and 1, 2, 3 subway lines at the 34th St-Penn Station intermodal complex. This is “one of the busiest transit hubs in North America,” MTA says....

Apple is planning a new Apple Store in Mexico as it continues to expand its presence around the globe. The new retail location will be located in the city of San Luis Potosi and construction is currently ongoing… Specifically, the Apple Store will be located in a new section of the El Dorado Mall. While Apple has not yet confirmed details about the store, there is a sign with Apple branding where the store will be located that reads “Próximamente,” or “coming soon....

Apple is now rolling out its new podcast subscription and channels initiative. Apple Podcasts Subscriptions allow creators to host bonus content and ad-free versions of their shows, in exchange for a monthly subscription. Apple Podcasts Subscriptions offer a lot of convenience for listeners. Fans of a show or network can subscribe with one button press inside the Podcasts app, using their Apple ID credentials. Apple then distributes the premium content automatically to subscribers as it becomes available....

Apple is set to reboot 1980s anthology series Amazing Stories, with Steven Spielberg and Bryan Fuller both on-board. Arguably the golden era for the genre, the 80s played host to lots of well-remembered anthology programming, including Tales from the Darkside, The Ray Bradbury Theater, and CBS’ first attempt at rebooting The Twilight Zone. One of the most critically acclaimed anthology series to come out of the decade was Amazing Stories, created by Spielberg....

Following the WWDC 2021 opening keynote earlier today, Apple has now released the first developer beta of tvOS 15. The update brings some great enhancements for Apple TV users, such as Spatial Audio for first-time AirPods users and FaceTime SharePlay. SharePlay is a new FaceTime feature for sharing content during FaceTime calls, including screen sharing, music, and videos. The feature can work with third-party apps and streaming services using an API available to developers....
